Sremski Karlovci

Located 8 km away from Novi Sad, the charming city of Sremski Karlovci is located on the banks of the Danube River. Since the Romans introduced vines to this flat, fertile region, Sremski Karlovci has been a leading producer of wine in Serbia. A stroll through the city center reveals architecture in the Austro-Hungarian style as well as Serbia’s distinctive Seccessionist style. It was here that the Karlovci Peace Treaty was signed in 1699, ending the war between Christian countries and the Turkish Empire. An easy drive (or ride aboard the Romantika train) from Belgrade, Sremski’s relaxed pace and beautiful center makes it a great day trip.
