Slovakia - 2007

Tour the  mountain villages of Starý Smokevec and Tatranská Lomnica.

In February of 2007, I traveled with a friend by bus up to Slovakia. Although we stayed in the ski tourist area of the High Tatra mountains, we spent our time visiting towns with irrepressible charm and restored beauty.

On our December trip to Prague via bus, we stopped over in the capital city Bratislava.

Visit Poprad, the gateway to the Tatras and the historical town of Spišska Sobota.

Explore the historical sites of Kežmarok, including the castle within the town and a unique wooden articulated church. Admire the art collection at the Strážky Castle.

Stroll through the central part of Košice, the second largest city in Slovakia. Witness its recent revival, including restorations of many buildings including St. Elizabeth’s Cathedral (the largest eastern-most Gothic cathedral), St. Michael’s Chapel, and the East Slovakian Museum.

Wander through the narrow streets of Levoča, a wealthy Renaissance town and trading center. Witness the splendors contained within the St. Jacob Cathedral, particularly the carved wooden altars by Master Paul of Levoča.

Walk up the Jewish Quarter towards Bratislava Castle or enjoy the Christmas festivities in the Main Square.
