Ethnographic Museum

Proud of its nation, there is an excellent ethnographic museum in Belgrade. Now more than a century old, the Serbian Ethnographic museum is one of the oldest museums in the Balkans. Although there are a number of permanent exhibitions, my favorite exhibition definitely is the folk costumes. Ornately embroidered, many of these costumes from various parts of former Yugoslavia were worn in the 19th century, although some date back much farther. Other permanent exhibitions include textiles and textile production items, typical dwellings, farm implements, and photos from the early 20th century, capturing a glimpse of the various festivals or lives of the people. Explanations for the exhibitions were in both Serbian and English. The museum also has a small gift shop with quality handicrafts.
