Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina

In May 2006, I took the night bus with a Serbian friend to Nevesinje, a town in Herzegovina. Out in the country, we stayed with two sisters in the top level of an old farm house. After exploring the beautiful spring nature around her farm, we drove to the medieval town of Pocitelj. Once up the narrow stone paths to the fortress, we had panoramic views of the town and river. We then visited the historic city of Mostar, walking through the Turkish quarter, with its cobblestone streets and items to sell. The highlight of the city is its ancient bridge, a symbolic and physical link between the Muslims and Catholics coexisting. It has been recently rebuilt and restored, a bombing victim of the fighting that occurred there between the two sides during the war. Read more about my experiences in Bosnia in my travelblog.
