Karthik’s Birthday

We had a good time last Saturday for Karthik’s 2nd Birthday Party. He had a lot of friends over. Melissa made some really good Indian food. And we had a great ice cream cake from Dairy Queen. Karthik was going crazy for it.

He really enjoyed opening his presents, too. He was a little overwhelmed, though. One present would have been quite enough, probably. Every time we gave him another present, he was surprised. The End of the Beginning

We had our last home visit the other day. No more visits from the social worker! He quite charmed her, I think, and the visit went really well. We still have to keep making regular reports to Holt and to the Indian government, but no more visits. It also means that we can begin to move ahead on the adoption finalization process. We’ve secured a lawyer in Eugene, and once this last round of paperwork goes through, he’ll be able to start the court process for finalization.

Today is also Karthik’s 2nd birthday. We’re having the party tomorrow, though, so more on that later.

I won some religious icons on eBay the other day. They came today in the mail. I was putting one up in the hallway with Karthik. It’s an icon of the nativity. There’s a cave with Jesus in the manger. And there is a cow and a horse in the background. And there is Mary.

So as I was putting it up, Karthik pointed at the cow and said, “Moo.” And I said, “Yes, that is a cow, it says ‘moo.’” And he pointed at the horse, and I said, “That’s a horse.” And then he pointed at Mary and said, “Mommy.” And I said, “Yes that is a mommy. You’re right.”

That’s all, just a cute story.

Adoption Visit

We had another visit from our adoption social worker. Everything went quite well. Karthik put on quite a show for her. And we managed to get all of the paperwork finished and in on time. And we only have 6 and a half more years of reports to fill out.

I’ve been rather remiss in giving you any updates. We just got settled in things were pretty busy and I slacked off on my job.

I’ve also been a little bad at getting photos up, but I’ve posted quite a few recently on our web gallery: http://gallery.mac.com/melissadavidking.

Things have been going pretty well. Karthik has really settled amazingly well and quite quickly. We had a great time at Christmas with lots of family around. Karthik really like spending time with his grandparents.

Melissa and David have gone back to work, David working full time at the church and Melissa working a couple of mornings a week. It’s taken some time, but we’re starting to settle into a schedule that works for everyone.

Just in the last couple of weeks, Karthik has really grown up a lot. He’s taller. He has more words. He’s getting around with much greater ease. And he is also quickly approaching 2-years-old, with all of the willfulness and tantruming that that entails.

So, I’ll try to keep you up-to-date more frequently. As for all, things are well and normalizing.
