President’s Message
Welcome and thank you for visiting
the official web site of the Society
for Prehospital Educators in Canada
(SPEC).
Prehospital patient care providers
work tirelessly to save the lives of the
sick and injured within our communities.
SPEC aims to ensure that the education
received by all of these practitioners is
of the highest standard based on the
latest research and best practices,
through cooperation with allied
organizations, and by serving as a
nationwide resource for prehospital
training programs to make ongoing program enhancements. The result is standardized and high quality healthcare care delivered to the citizens of Canada.
Since the seed was planted at the PAC/CMA Ottawa NOCP Workshops in November 2005 to form a national body that would represent and further the needs of Canadian prehospital educators (see About Us), SPEC has succeeded in becoming fully established and registered. In fact, SPEC has already held its first Educational Symposium, which took place in Toronto on October 19-20. Furthermore, SPEC has also begun to establish ties with not only PAC and CMA, but also with the EMS Chiefs of Canada (EMSCC), the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) and with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP).
But none of this would have been possible without the dedication of SPEC’s Working Group members. Each volunteered their efforts over and above their regular full-time duties, resulting in SPEC’s formation being realized. My heartfelt thanks go out to these individuals as our progress continues unabated. You can find a list of the working group members in the “Documents” section of this site.
As we continue to grow, more will be added here including helpful resources, links, and important dates. So, enjoy your stay and we hope you’ll visit regularly.
Sincerely,
Bik Chawla, ACP
President, SPEC
