Jessica’s had enough!

The secondary storyline from this book actually left me feeling a little sorry for Jessica...until she blew it by overreacting.

Before Lila and Jessica had their boy-related falling out in the last book, they agreed to join a gourmet cooking class together. Jessica’s pretty close to quitting. But then she lays eyes on their teacher, Jean-Pierre. He’s French.

Not only does mutual excitement over Jean-Pierre help to mend Jess and Lila’s friendship, but it also helps to turn Jess into an avid chef. In fact, even after she finds out Jean-Pierre is married, she still goes on with the class. She’s hoping she can surprise her parents with a fancy anniversary dinner.

Unfortunately, a bad batch of seafood has the family doubting her cooking skills. On top of that, Elizabeth gets her parents tickets to a show for their anniversary. When Jessica protests that she’d made big plans to cook for her parents, they laugh it off, callously saying that they still haven’t recovered from her bad clams. They have no idea how personally Jessica takes it.

How personally? Well, the next book is called Runaway. Sheesh.

The story that we almost forgot.
