Rica Benavides, bass player extraordinaire and collector

of friends, passed away this Wednesday the 11th of June 2008 at Los Angeles County Hospital, USC.

He died of cancer and of the complications of that devastating disease. All of us will miss him. This is a man who has been a friend to all of us and to the world a Poet of the language of Music, a great guy and a wonderful and passionate man.

His Family and close friends invite you to celebrate Rica and his life. This is not a time to mourn him. If you know the man at all you’ll know he never wanted a bunch of people dressed in black and crying.  He wants a celebration and this is a celebration of a life well-lived; a complete life. He completed his mission on Earth and filled us with wonderful memories and great lessons and has inspired us all to give it our all.

So come and join us!

We will have an event to celebrate his life.

There will be a reverend who will speak and guide us through a prayer (powerful stuff).

There will be Mariachis; a slide show of Rica’s Life; we will listen to songs recorded by Rica and watch great moments and performances in video from Rica’s life. His family will be there and some of the world’s greatest musicians will perform at this event.  There will be an all star jam session. And we shall share our stories.

FOOD AND DRINK

This is your opportunity to shine, cook something good and share it or if you don’t cook bring something to share.

Please if you cant’ bring anything don’t be embarrassed just bring love and yourself.  We are trying to keep it as alcohol free as we can but if you want a beer do bring your own. Soft drinks and water are welcome; things to munch on  are welcome.  Share the food, share the love.

DONATIONS

If you can give a donation for the family there will be a donation bucket. They will appreciate it!
