I grew up in a Mayberry-like town in northeastern Oklahoma. I spent years planning my escape, but I somehow ended up back home with a husband, two kids, three dogs, and a bird. Who knew I could fall in love with my hometown 25 years later?
I realize some people will think Mayberry is a cliche . . . or that the image of a small town from a television series created more than 40 years ago has no cultural significance for much of today’s population.
But if you’re a Boomer, albeit a late Boomer like me, Mayberry stands for community, for neighborliness, for a lot of things that sometime seem to be missing from modern life.
My blog, Mayberry Magpie, chronicles life in my hometown. It’s a crazy, wonderful, infuriating, miraculous . . . magical place. I hope you’ll visit often.
