Maui country club
CENTRAL MAUI
The Maui Country Club was built in the ‘20s to meet the recreational needs of sugar workers, plantation managers, and the rich. It’s nine holes feature three sets of tees, and members play them in order to make for a full 18-hole round. Located only a 5-iron away from the North Shore, the Maui Country Club is known for its slick greens. Many consider them to among the island’s best. The course plays into and against strong trade winds, making for challenge both ways when it comes to ball control and club selection. Open on Mondays to tourists, the Maui Country Club allows walking, and has a nice restaurant with a veranda overlooking the finishing hole, a narrow par-4 lined by trees. There are only two par-3s on the course, and each plays into a different wind direction. No. 3 plays downwind, and No. 6 plays into the wind. The course’s three par 5s are all reachable in two shots, but two play into the trades, and long hitters need to hit it straight and far to reach them.
The greenside bunker on hole No. 2 at the Maui Country Club guards the hole’s double-tiered green.
