kapalua plantation course
Designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, the Kapalua Plantation course measures 7,411 yards from the Tournament tees, has a slope of 140, course rating of 73.6, and plays to a par of 73. Opened in 1991, the Plantation course is the site of the PGA TOUR season-opener Mercedes-Benz Championship, held on December 31, 2007 - January 7, 2008. The Plantation course is often rated among the most beautiful unique golf courses in the world. Every hole uses the rugged natural landscape to showcase stunning views, and to make use of the unusually sloping terrain. Its 18 scenic holes wind through 240 acres of pineapple fields, rolling green hills, and deep gorges. Golfers who play or visit this course will see sweeping oceanscapes, tropical forestry and wildlife, and play some of the best modern course architecture on earth. The Plantation course has holes of extraordinary dimensions and shapes. Despite the long yardages of some of its holes, Crenshaw and Coore designed the Plantation in a way that uses the naturally steep and sloping terrain, and swirling trade winds, to bring the lengthier holes down to size. Local knowledge is a must, and playing the Plantation course more than once will certainly improve your score. The course has been completely redone, with all-new TifEagle greens, reshaped bunkers, and more. •
No. 18 has held the distinction of being the longest par-5 on the PGA Tour. But you can birdie it on a good day.
