COURSE REVIEWS: CENTRAL MAUI
Photo: Curvy, sloping terrain, and a surreal setting combine to make The King Kamehameha Golf Club’s layout and location one of the more remarkable golf courses to be found in Hawaii.
Hawaii Honored
The King Kamehameha Golf Club is a historic place, where members are a part of something beyond golf.

Photo: Jeff Barr, who writes the travel section for GOLFWEEK, published 1001 Golf Holes You Must Play Before You Die. In it, he cites this hole: the 509-yard, par-5 4th, among those he recommends. But do it soon! Plans are afoot to move this hole to the right, with even more devilish obstacles surely to appear from Robin Nelson’s bag of tricks.
Dazzling Dunes
Ranked by GOLFWEEK among Hawaii’s “Top 10” courses, The Dunes at Maui Lani features a terrain unlike anything else on Maui.

Photo: The recently updated par-5 12th at Kahili features a pond that protects the green from long hitters seeking eagles, while at the same time course architect Robin Nelson offers a safe route toward the right, making this a true three-shot par-5 for those who trust their wedges. Maalaea Bay dominates the backdrop on this and the next hole.
A Luxurious Value
The Kahili Golf Course is a first class ticket available for the price of coach: It’s the only way to golf.

Photo: The downhill, par-4 10th at the Royal Kaanapali Golf Course is a gem of a hole that points straight toward neighbor island of Lanai.
Royal Playground
Whether you’re a legend of golf, like: Jack, Arnie, or Gary; or a high handicapper, like Maui’s Randy and Igne, Kaanapali is the former royal playground where the world now comes to play.

Photo: The 156-yard par-3 says it all about the Wailea Old Blue Course: imaginative design, immaculate course maintenance, and views galore. This is what makes Wailea so special. The only thing you need when you come here is your clubs and your camera!
Arthur Jack Snyder’s Wailea Old Blue Golf Club is the former LPGA Tour stop that set the standard for Wailea’s immense popularity.
Photo: The picturesque, 380-yard par-4 No. 1 hole at the Wailea Emerald Course, with Molokini in the distance, and an expanse of fairway as inviting as the word: ‘aloha!’

Photo: The 177 yard par-3 7th, on the North, features a large lava ravine that crosses just in front of the green, a deep bunker guarding the center, and death if you go left. But you’ll find stunning views abound here, and a bail-out area to the right, too.
Makena Golf
Makena’s 36-holes are heaven on earth for the golfer. The two courses are meticulously conditioned, have perfect greens, offering two stellar designs all in an unspoiled, natural setting.

COURSE REVIEWS: SOUTH MAUI
Photo: The 386-yard, par-4 11th was redesigned and regrassed by the new owners and the result is a wider, more welcoming fairway that gives way to the elevated green, which looks narrower from the fairway than it actually is. One extra club will do on this well-designed golf hole.
elleair Maui GC
If you are looking for panoramic views of Maui’s best sights, a golf course that inspires your game, and all of the amenities of a five-star resort, then play elleair.
