Navigating Maui’s Golf Courses
Maui’s courses are in three major areas:
Central Maui—which includes Pukalani Upcountry, Maui C.C. in Sprecklesville, and Waiehu on the North shore;
South Maui—which includes the Wailea and Makena Resorts, as well as Elleair;
West Maui—where you will find Kapalua and Kaanapali. Visitors unfamiliar with our highways (and traffic) should note that while the distance from Kapalua to Maui may not seem far, it is always a good idea to allow for extra drive time in the event of a road blockage on the Honoapiilani Highway during rush hour.
The road from South to Central Maui, the Mokulele Highway, is under construction and delays should be allowed for when traveling from either direction.
Sunscreen is not enough!
Use a hat, and get up early!
Although sunscreens are a very important part of sun protection, broad-brimmed hats, long sleeved shirts and pants, and sun avoidance (between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.—not likely) are also important.
Current sunscreens on the market are simply not enough. They should be viewed as a back-up to primary means of sun protection such as shirts, hats and sun avoidance.
A number of studies have confirmed that repeated sunburns substantially increase the risk for melanoma.
This is especially true for childhood sunburns because there is more time and opportunity for subsequent sun damage to lead to a fully malignant melanoma.
Get up early, play late, use sunscreen, and a hat, and keep smiling.
