BT to remove village telephone box

It seems a decision has been made by BT to remove our village telephone kiosk. A couple of months ago I made an approach to BT asking them if they could paint the Kiosk and I was told that this was to go ahead. However this decision has now been overturned and the box looks set to be removed completely. A notice dated 6th May 2008 has appeared within it that reads as follows:

Telephone kiosk review
BT Payphones are committed and working hard to secure a long-term future future for payphones across the UK, despite a decline in use.
However, a detailed survey has shown that this kiosk is not being used sufficiently to continue the service at this location.
We are therefore proposing to remove this payphone following a consultation period of 42 days from the above date. (6/5/2008)
To include your views, please contact your local Authority Planning Department who will collate all responses back to BT

Do you want to see the phone box removed? Surely this would be a loss to the village as a whole and be yet another potential loss of an important public amenity like the shop and post office? What do members of the parish council think? If you don’t want to loose the payphone then please contact West Berkshire Council Planning Department and let them know and please also leave a comment below and click on the Online Petition to Save East Garston's Payphone.
