East Garston Church maintenance day

On Saturday September 8th, we are organising a day to carry out repairs and maintenance to the church and churchyard.- Everybody is welcome men, women and children alike as there are many housekeeping and routine jobs that need doing as well as skilled work, such as carpentry. We would like to make it a fun day and a family day and will be organising a barbeque during the midday period.

Chris Tonge, Martyn Donno, David Knight and Micky Highnett are some of the people who have already agreed to be involved, but we need lots more - as many as possible. Chris, as Chairman of the Parish Council, has kindly agreed to lead this project. The Parish Council working hand in hand with the Church is a splendid example of the whole village community pulling together. There will be a list of all the work that needs to be undertaken and some careful planning to be carried out, in order that we have all the requisite materials to hand. We will also need people to organise, cook and serve the BBQ.

If you can help with providing materials and tools for a wide variety of jobs including cleaning, or with food for the barbeque, please get in touch with Sally in the first instance. If you are on holiday on the 8th September or DIY is not your preferred leisure time occupation, perhaps you may care to make a donation to the cost of materials that need to be purchased. Whatever your contribution to the day, we shall be enormously grateful. Please get in touch (with Sally 648 679) as soon as possible, if you can help in any way shape or form.

Our belief is that the Church's place is at the centre of the community and it is there for all of us whenever we need it. You do not have to be a regular or even an occasional churchgoer - the whole parish as well as friends from beyond the parish are welcome. As I said at our Gift Weekend in 2006, “We are all stewards, holding this ancient Church in trust, for the generations of East Garston people yet unborn.” So we will be most grateful for your help.
The Reverend Tony Cumberlidge
