I am trying to start a new allotment society for East Garston and would like to hear from anyone in the parish who might be interested in getting involved! Did you know…
-
There are various organisations with funds available to start and support new allotment projects
-
Many parishes in the UK have waiting lists of up to 20 years for their allotments
-
Lambourn have now closed their allotment waiting list to non Lambourn residents
-
If no allotment is available to the residents of any parish, then the parish council has a legal duty to provide suitable land should they receive written interest from six or more parish residents (Allotments and Small Holdings Act, 1908)
The many benefits of growing your own fruit and vegetables are well known, even more so now that food prices are widely reported to be spiralling. I also believe an allotment site would be of huge benefit to the village community in general.
An allotment would be ideal for you if:
-
You do not have space to grow vegetables in your own garden
-
You would prefer to keep your garden space for flowerbeds / lawns / children’s play areas / etc
-
You already grow your own but would like more space to expand
In order for the project to proceed further there needs to be evidence of a real interest from other village residents!
If you think you might like your own allotment in the village then please contact me asap:
