I am chuffed to report that the Crystals gig was a huge success on Saturday. Not only did we raise £813.62 for our community village shop but we had a great boogie and persuaded the band to play 3 encores! Thank you to everyone who was involved – the fabulous Pammy, Alex and Paul in the band; our generous prize donors; Raymond, Peter and Janey for the barbecue; Chris and Dawn for the raffle and auction; James for ticket printing and lighting; Wendy & Alan for professional hall management; Simon & Maria & Brian for stage construction; Robert for his Costco shop; and to absolutely everyone who contributed to a great evening. We will definitely do another rock’n’roll night!
The other great news is that all the bureaucratic and planning hurdles have finally been overcome so that Maria actually placed the order for our new shop building today which means the shop will be ready to open very early in the new year. More money still needs to be raised to fit out and stock the shop so if you haven’t already, do become a Friend of East Garston Community Shop. The annual membership fee is £10 and allows you to vote at the AGM but you can also donate as much as you like. For further details please contact Maria on 01488 648801 or mlcarver@btopenworld.com

Invitation to Discuss West Berkshire’s celebration of the Cultural Olympiad
The Ibex Inn, Chaddleworth
West Berkshire Council and Arts Council South East have jointly commissioned a piece of consultancy to see how communities in West Berkshire wish to celebrate London 2012 and the Cultural Olympiad. Nick Sweeting, an international theatre producer who is based in West Berkshire, is undertaking this work and Community Action West Berkshire is delighted to be working with and supporting Nick to gather as many ideas from local people as possible about how West Berkshire would like to celebrate the Cultural Olympiad 2012.
There is already a wealth of cultural activity and interest in our rural communities from community cinemas, choirs, dance, musical events, theatre and art shows. This is your chance to influence how the arts in West Berkshire are shaped through the Cultural Olympiad and beyond, so please let Sarah Ward at Community Action West Berkshire know if you would like to represent your community at this discussion. Contact Sarah on 01635 523857 or sarah.ward@cawb.org.uk
