It looks great, and I am really glad I decided to get it for Eric. It is also symbolic, since we had our first baby (a boy) in September. Whenever we show people that it is not only a sculpture, but also five rhythm shakers, they are incredulous. Some of our friends that have played with it -- those that are more "musically inclined" -- immediately noticed that each finger / shaker produces a different sound, and they were really impressed with that. Thanks again for creating such a great art piece, Briana Matt, Eric loved the sculpture. We put it on our mantel. I'll have to e-mail you a picture. My husband and I listen to your CD often, and when people come into our home and hear it playing they often take a deep breath, look around, and say how peaceful it is! (Lately it's been my fall asleep and wake up CD as well.) Pegge Dear matt, as you know my Berimbau was delivered to a friend in manchester. i was anxious to play your instrument. after a little surprise over the size of the berimbau - for some unknown reason i anticipated that it would be bigger(?) - i was immediately struck by the beauty of the instrument. the workmanship and crafting is beautiful. unlike the raw charm of traditional berimbaus, my berimbau has an elegance and even grace to it. i believe they contrast each other very well. in fact, i can barely wait until i can hear both of my berimbaus play side by side. the sound of the berimbau is equally exquisite. the adjustments that you have made certainly achieve what you intended: she sings with the same melancholic tones that are typical of berimbaus yet with more clarity and precision than i have ever heard. her voice lingers... in conclusion, i am totally enamored with her! thank you once again for all that you have done and i wish you all the best for the future. yours sincerely, nathan. Hello Matt,
  Yes the drum arrived safely!  It has caused quite a stir in our house.
The base tones actually rattle the china!!!  My oldest son takes drum lessons, so he had to show it to his drum teacher immediately, and my #2 son takes guitar lessons, so he had to show it to his teacher!!  
 
We have it sitting in our living room front and center. Everyone that walks in the house says "How Cool"  and then ask "what is it?"  once we point out the fact that it is a drum, then everyone wants to sit down and play with it.  
 
What a beautiful piece of sculpture!  Our house is full of art
work, so this just fits perfectly!  I hope you get to make some more of these, they are too beautiful to keep hidden!!  Thanks once again.

Dear Matt, I just received the Kalimba today, and am thrilled with the possibilities that it holds for my music. There is something else, though. I have been going to CA every summer and every other Christmas since I was born, and the Pacific state holds a deep place in me. I just wanted to thank and tell you how much your work means to me as well. I've been looking at your site more recently and saw Laguna Fire and your handshakers (Spencer's Journey is beautiful, by the way), and although it's hard to explain you seem to have captured the very essence of California, and all the bright memories it has, and placed them into your pieces. It means a lot to me, and you should be very proud of your work and the beauty of California that each creation exhibits.
