It’s Good to Know KunTao Studio Garuda offers classes in KunTao Silat DeThouars and American KunTao Silat, a rare multi-faceted martial art from Indonesia that incorporates Indonesian, Chinese, Indian, Arab, and European influences. Founded by the world reknowned BaPak Willem DeThouars, KunTao Silat DeThouars is a direct, effective, practical self defense art. American KunTao Silat is the expression of this art as taught by his senior student Maha Guru Steve Gartin. Classes are held in an a friendly, open, village style. We ‘play’ our art. Students often comment on the friendly nature of our school. But make no mistake about it’s practicality, as it was forged in a 500 year crucible of war. Practical, direct and effective, KunTao Silat is a martial lifestyle that teaches you how to defend yourself from aggressors as well as from the dangers you cannot avoid - stress, injury, disease and old age.
