club goals

The MGMC is a network of people with something to offer or share. This could be their enthusiasm to work with others to overcome some of the hurdles to successful cattle breeding - it can be people who understand the operation of the MGBCS and its regulations and who can help others do likewise - it can be people who are successful in different parts of the industry (showing, steer preparation, marketing) who are happy to share their know how - people who know about the theory of breeding and animal selection - people who can help out at shows - people who want to get together to buy a really good bull, etc.

THE MGBCS HELPING OUT IN THE TOUGH TIMES
The MGBCS has a number of policies in place to help members financially, especially when times are tough. They provide practical and real financial assistance and you should know about them. You should contact the Office or any of your directors for the current status of any of this assistance.

Drought relief. If a DROUGHT CONCESSION is in place it will be notified in society publications and on the M1 Birth Notification and Registration forms. The following is an extract from the 2005 M1 Form. 'A price representing 50% of the annual fee per active cow ($13.20), is due and payable as of the due date for the Female Inventory. members will pay an additional amount ($16.50) for each calf born during the year in which a Drought Concession applies. Pro-rat arrangements shall be applied to cows in the other Registers of the MGBCS. This concession is only available to members who apply for Drought Concession and provide all necessary documentation by 31st May 2005'. This policy brought in by a board of which I was a member provides real financial relief and helps you maintain your female herd as active (thus avoiding reinstatement fees) at the same time.

Inactive amnesty. For a few reasons, often because times are tough, members have made some cows inactive. This means that they cannot have calves registered or performance recorded until they are reinstated as active. As they are fees and penalties involved in this some of these cows never make it back as 'active'. This may affect their sale value and lessens the amount of performance data produced in the herd. From the perspective of MGBCS it reduces income and lessens the amount of performance data for the breed. From time to time the society introduces an amnesty to allow these inactive cows 'back-in' with a waiving or reduction of any penalties.

Advertising subsidy. The society currently provides a 20% advertising subsidy on the total cost of certain advertising organised and paid for by groups and members. Guidelines and approval for the subsidy must be obtained in advance. In general in applies to advertising undertaken by groups of members, from which no member/s have been excluded from participating. It is also usual for the relevant advertising to include the logo or other information approved and provided by the society.

Genestar testing subsidy. When the society began to promote Genestar testing by GeneticSolutions it implemented a $30 per animal subsidy on the cost of testing. Some conditions applied such as the use and publication of the results by the society for marketing, promotion and research purposes.

Application for relief from financial obligations. In the new constitution approved by members at the 2006 AGM, facility was provided for members in default of any financial obligation to the society to make application to the society to defer any action that may affect the members financial standing or membership.

site and member feedback

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to give us some feedback. This is a brand new site with its own teething problems and your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve it.

Q1. Some counters show high numbers and others low numbers. Are they accurate? The counters on individual pages are reset from time to time to help us monitor visits to individual pages. So they are accurate for activity rather than total numbers of visitors.

Q2.  Is the club logo a bit formal? Now you come to mention it, perhaps. We will keep on open mind on it.

Q3. Does the use of things like the membership sign-up form inadvertently give our email address to outside organisations and result in spam? The use of on-line forms is very handy for us, however it is a service provided by a business and we have no control over them. We are adding information to the site to alert people to these possible issues.

Q4. Why doesn’t the MGBCS provide all this information? Much of the information on this site is gathered from other sources, much of it from the society. We are simply trying to collect the information most useful to our members and provide it all with our own presentation style on one site. Hence you will note many references to MGBCS on this site and links to other sources of our information.

Q5. I like the use of ‘the floors’ as the means of navigating the site but you have a lot more pages than is obvious and I get a bit lost sometimes. Any solution to this? Thanks, we like it too. However as the site grows we will review whether the navigation system is working well enough and make changes if necessary. We still have the roof and the basement to use yet!

This sounds OK to us. You might want to consider just promoting the address for this website so people can see all the information in one place, however if you want to print something off the site you are welcome to do so. Please check with us first just in case there are any issues with what you want to use and where you want to use it.

We may also be able to help personalise some of the pages with your own contact details (and send them to you in PDF format).
