commitment to the breed

Katuna is not a commercial cattle enterprise, but we have a deep regard for the merits of the Murray Grey breed, and for its place in the agricultural heritage of Australia. David served as a director  and vice-president of the MGBCS from 2003-2006, as well as operating the Katuna website and its well known show result and AI sire sections, and more recently in partnership with Alan Meyer, has established the Murray Grey Members Club.

home is where the herd is

Katuna is operated by David and Wes Llewellyn on a number of small properties in the southern tablelands of new south wales. It is a ‘Dad and Dave’ operation. The main property is close to Goulburn, sadly becoming more and more famous for its droughts and empty dams.

great cattle & good fortune

We were fortunate to obtain two outstanding cows, Kaltara Nora 388 and Cloverdale Grey Dame 2711 and they are well represented in the herd. Nora 388 produced Katuna Millennium supreme exhibit at both Melbourne and Canberra Royals, as well as Katuna Courageous who became the first murray grey bull in 20 years to be exported to the USA, when he was selected by John and Mary Ellen Wozny, Spectrum Farm Ohio, as their new stud sire.

a good cow is a good cow for a long time

Without the strictest commercial realities having to be applied at katuna we are able to allow very good cows to continue to produce. Cloverdale Grey Dame is rearing her latest calf at the age of 19, and we still have the first cow we purchased, Chandelier, born in 1979!
