- JOINT NUMBER 1 -
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE - ‘Strawberry Jam’
&
PANDA BEAR - ‘Person Pitch’
I don’t care if this is a cop-out or a lazy comparison but I absolutely love these two albums and I couldn’t possibly choose between them.
Personally I’d say Panda Bear is like a dreamy mix of the two Brians (Wilson and Eno) and Animal Collective are today’s Pink Floyd (not a ban I like particularly but like AC they pushed the boundaries and tried to be different).
Panda Bear - ‘Bros (Album Version)’
Animal Collective - ‘Derek’
Of the albums/bands that didn’t make the top 15 I’d make special mention of The Mae Shi - ‘HILLYH’ as I don’t own it yet but the two tracks I’ve heard are superb. I’m also keen to hear more of Scots indie folksters Down The Tiny Steps.
Great albums were also made in 2007 by Iron & Wine, Miracle Fortress, Maps & Atlases, Jonquil, Parts & Labor, Silversun Pickups, Zookeeper, Arctic Monkeys, Elevado, Mice Parade and yes even Arcade Fire.
Best gigs were Hot Club de Paris at Camden Crawl, Rufus Wainwright at Manchester Apollo and The Shins at Manchester Academy.
Notable undwerwhelms were Spoon - ‘Ga, Ga, Ga’ (gutted - I love Spoon); Rilo Kiley - ‘Under the Backlight’
As well as Down The Tiny Steps I’m looking forward to investigating more of the work of Voo, Fight Like Apes, Elle S’Apelle and Howlies among others.
