My album of the year is (drum roll, Marvin please...)
‘TELL IT TO THE VOLCANO’ BY MINIATURE TIGERS
As I said then, they are one of my favourite discoveries of the year. Hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, they are hard to define. ‘Upbeat punk-pop with knobs on’ is the closest you’ll get from me.
Charlie Brand’s vocals (and indeed lyrics) resonate with just enough Southern angst to take a layer of sugar off the band’s basic pop sensibilities.
With influences including Weezer, The Beatles and Frasier, I knew I was going to like them before I’d even heard a track. But I don’t like them, I bloody love them.
