The store opened at 9:55 AM on Friday, September 27.
-----------------------------------------------------
September 27 - Work continued through the night. Installed just in time for opening, the steel covering at the support beam at the mall entrance, the plants on the side facing Bebe and the grid over the front glass.
------------------------------------------------------
September 26 - A lot of work was done over night. On Friday, the construction barriers were just taken down and walkway flag stone still being installed. The external stone facing was not finished, as the fill-in pieces, the mall entrance and the West side of the front were being installed.
--------------------------------------------------------
September 1 - The exterior facing finally showed up and is being installed. It is lava rock, but not from Hawaii.
---------------------------------------------------------
July 30 - The front glass was installed. Very little change in the last month. The mall’s flag stone is being installed right up to the edge of store. There is still no sign of the exterior facing. They are waiting for a stone type specifically ordered for this location.

Aloha News and photos on the construction Apple store in Waikiki
April Construction
I played devil’s advocate about the potential sales in a tourist-only center. You may see the thoughts at the ifoapplestore website under the title Future Honolulu Store a Head Scratcher. ifoapplestore is an excellent reference for Apple retail. For instance, people staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Hale Koa (House of the Warrior) the military hotel, other hotels and condos on that side of Waikiki are closer to the Ala Moana store.

June Construction
The Shopping Center is in three sections along Kalakaua Avenue with Apple in the “C” or East building. With a streetside entrance and a Mall door it will be a very different floor plan than other locations.
The Apple store will be two floors, streetside across an opening from Bebe and next to a LeSportsac. Escalators on the East end take you to the anchor store, Hilo Hatties. The first floor will be retail sales space and the second floor office space, inventory storage and employee area. There is an elevator, but the staircase is strictly employee only.

As there is the Ala Moana store a mile and a half Northwest and the Kahala Mall store two and a half miles Northeast, customers will be strictly tourists. It will provide excellent exposure to a worldwide audience. A great commitment by Apple.

June 14 to 20 was the Grand Open House Celebration for the Center. A full-color 66-page magazine, Nou Ka Hale (Our House is Your House) was included with the Sunday newspaper.
Apple missed this grand opening and is not mentioned anywhere in the advertising. Evidently design changes slowed the opening. An exterior stone facing was installed and then removed. No glass has been seen. The interior retail space looks complete.

April - The Center’s store listing no longer show Apple. There is clearly a blank space where it used to appear. Probably Apple wanting to keep all public announcements on hold until the last moment, as is their usual policy. Of course it was in newspapers over a year ago. Apple is probably not happy with this website.
