Ala Moana Shopping Center

Ala Moana Shopping Center

Hawaii’s first Apple store at the state’s largest shopping center was remodeled in November 2006. They did not do the full change over to the steel walls and the back-lit displays. Probably too much time and expense right before the holiday shopping period. They did combine the Genius Bar and the check-out counter. The white children’s table with no place for knees has been replaced. It is the same wood grained design as the rest of the tables, just shorter. Gone also are the below table sundry displays. You no longer have to kneel down to find an external hard drive. Big improvement. So the look of the store changed slightly. But the ability to display and sell was greatly upgraded. Nice job Apple.
July 2008
The new iPhone good but not great. About 200 people were in line at opening. An hour later I counted 165. Sales went briskly and people in line stayed upbeat. There were later reports of activation slow down, but considering that this (along with Kahala Mall) was the last store in the world to open, it went well.
