Textural Explorations

I have been exploring the use of copper in my work.  In this abstract piece, I make use of copper tubing, wire, woven mesh, and foil strips.   I love the contrast between the copper tones and the green patina and turquoise colors, as well as the contrast in textures - shiny and smooth to rough and flat. Other materials in the piece include burlap, felt, organza ribbons, sheer polyester fabrics, turquoise and glass beads, buttons, and a variety of novelty yarns and threads.  The center tile design was done using a stamp and copper paint, embellished with free-motion stitching and copper metallic thread.
It could be that the colors I have been drawn to lately are not so much Caribbean colors as Mediterranean colors...they remind me of ancient Greek baths or swimming pools...maybe I’m channeling some vibes from my Sicilian ancestors or something... I’ve also been noticing that my home decor, clothing, and jewelry choices also often include these colors and textures...perhaps these are my “true colors” (redhead that I am!).
