The National Parkinson Foundation believes in our battle with Parkinson Disease, knowledge is power and hope is everything. Every day, NPF strives to provide patients and caregivers with the resources that help you Fight Back. NPF will support the research that moves us all forward. The cause and cure of Parkinson Disease will be found.
Our team MLI Motorsports will be making a donation to NPF from proceeds we may acquire through any contributory donations or sponsorships to our running of the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 in November of 2008. I have reached a point in my life where I realize just how short life is relative to the world around us and that if you have a dream, especially one that requires long term commitment, then that is what you should go after. Follow your Bliss! You don’t want to wake up one day and be at the end of your road, looking back wishing you had followed your dreams only to find your time has run out. Now is the time to seize the moment because you never know what tomorrow might bring.
After seeing my mother suffer as long as she did, I realized that she was faced with her life coming to an end, yet at to early an age while she still had unfulfilled dreams, but there was nothing she could do to change her fate. She suffered with this degenerative disease in the hospital for one year until finally she left this world.
During all this time with my mom going through all those terrible times, I had to give myself some project, a series of achievements toward the final goal which allowed me to internalize all my thoughts and emotions so that I could figure out how to deal with my mother dying. I then began to challenge myself with different tasks knowing that if I ride it out and stick with it long enough, I will reach success. Just as mom rode through the worst of times, she finally accepted her fate and trusted her faith in God and then just asked that she be taken back to her home at the beach where she could then let go , completing her journey in this life. In her final four or five months while in the hospital, she fought until she was able to go home where she could then say good by.
I will race against the Baja, in honor of my mother, to help find the cause and cure for Parkinson Disease as we WILL cross the finish line!
