Our Plans for 2008 and Beyond
Going to the Baja 1000 and crossing the finish line is one of the most difficult challenges for anybody, where so many things are against you, man and machine against the natural world if the desert. This would take a lot of preparation, hard work and strong commitment to actually make it happen and Tom and I are up for the challenge. We both intend to compete in 3 desert races each year including Baja and be able to share these experiences with our children as they grow up.
OUR FIRST OFF ROAD RACE IN 2007
To make a long story short, last year, 2007, we worked toward this goal for seven months and we did make it to Baja with a car to race but everything did not go exactly as planned. We raced up to about race mile 97 of 1,295, when our engine lost oil pressure, spun the main bearings causing it to seize, so we had no choice but to get out of the race. The rules do not allow complete engine exchanges during an event. But luckily we had another non-race motor to put in the car so we could at least still run around Baja. Even though we did not get to complete the race, we had at least made it there with a race car which was our ultimate goal, and anything beyond would have just been icing on the cake. The Baja 1000 in 2007 actually ran 1,295 miles straight down from Ensenada to Cabo San Lucas which makes it the most difficult off road race of all times, and for our first race to ever run, we were fortunate to have made it as far as we did. Out of twenty entries in our class, only five actually finished the race.
This year, November 20-23, 2008, we are going back to Baja and this time we have full intentions to finishing the whole race within the time limit
