I said goodbye to my family and we drove to Frankfurt airport to pick up Rob Hildebrand and our program team from Multnomah Bible College. Their plane was late and ended up paying 36 Euros x2 ($50) for parking for about 75 minutes. OUCH! It was exciting when the first van pulled out of the lot and drove away and the machine that collects your ticket refused to accept our parking ticket. Any how walked all over the airport until we found someone who could rectify our situation. With our problem fixed we gassed up and headed for Eringerfeld, Germany.
3.5 hours later we arrived with 10 groggy college students and one excited youth ministry professor. We settled into our rooms and unloaded all our equipment. The youth hostel conserves energy so they only run the heat when guests arrive. The front desk clerks had their winter coats on inside. They are nuts, it took two days for my room to get to normal temperature. Jon our worship leader slept in his winter coat!
Any how Rob our speaker decided that he wanted to test out our fog machine in a small confined area to see if it worked well. Only to discover that it worked well enough to bring out the entire fire department setting off the smoke detectors. Whoops. The facility administrator came and told us we committed a crime. And then had us sign their standard wavier that excludes the use of fog machines, fireworks, and open fires in their facilities.
We ended the day with a fully functional sound and audio system and a good laugh at our misfortune.
