Those of you who frequent my blog will likely recall that the last time I went to China, I couldn’t blog via Livejournal. This is the next best option. I’ll be in Shanghai for two weeks, or so. Check back for (mostly) daily updates.
Michael Phelps just won his seventh gold medal. Ran out of the shower to watch that race, and it was well worth it. Oh, man.

Although, given that my parents have a place here in Shanghai, this feels like home, too. Just different.

I leave for the airport in a couple of hours, but I took a nice long walk this morning -- got my daily infusion of Starbucks hot chocolate -- and then wandered past the post office (I have an interesting story about that, but for later), St. Ignatius Cathedral, down past the old Shanghai film studio (pictured at the very bottom...and yes, I have learned that it is going to be torn down to make room for another commercial development, which is a terrible shame, and a real mark against Shanghai’s inability to save any historic sites at all), until I reached a little alley that specializes in all kinds of breakfast foods: dumplings, fried breads, hot buns, and so on. Smelled wonderful.

I need to go pack and clean up a little. Next time I post, I’ll be back in the United States.

I won’t tell the score, but suffice to say, we kicked some major booty. All five starters rested on the sidelines during the fourth quarter.

My cold is finally getting kicked out of my system -- right before I leave. I’m sorry to go. I feel as though I’m just beginning to get into my groove. Next opportunity to come back probably won’t be until late Autumn.

More scenes from tonight. Earlier in the evening a wicked storm hit the city. Torrential rains, eerie unrelenting lightning, howling winds. And now, peace and quiet in the skies. If I had a big imagination, I would accuse alien battlecruisers of fighting it out above the clouds and causing terrible electrical storms!

But I won’t. Not really.

So, what’s a sporting event without a little controversy? Take, for example, the revelation that lip-syncing was going on at the opening ceremonies! The little girl on stage was adorable -- but so was the other kid. The difference? As far as I’ve read, it came down to a set of crooked teeth. Tough crowd.

Oh, but hey, you want something offensive to go down with your breakfast, then you really need to see this picture of the Olympic basketball team from Spain, who in a show of pure intelligence and class, posed for an ad while purposely slanting their eyes. Good going, boys.

In other news, there’s a new Q&A with me at Comic Book Resources (a different interview from the other day). Check it out for some exclusive art from NYX.

Back to the writing.
