My PhD research investigates the influence of mosquito vectors on the evolution and ecology of avian malaria parasites.  I am conducting mosquito feeding trials to test hypotheses related to parasite-mosquito evolution.  I am also examining field data to explore patterns in the distribution of avian malaria lineages in their mosquito hosts.

Avian malaria is a lot of fun to work with because it requires getting to know three vastly different taxa.  It allows me to combine my interests in disease ecology, birds, and phylogeography.  I have also gained an appreciation for mosquitoes along the way.
