Against The Dark of Night is a hypnotic, meditative jewel of a film that poetically materializes the 'spiritual' world. A very real world, our inner world, that guides us by means of its symbolic idealization to an insight into our best and basic life purpose - that of passing on the gift of life, love and knowledge from one generation to another. Emotionally poignant and visually visionary, it has a dual cast of eternal "spheres of light" falling, floating, dancing with the radiantly embodied spirits in a suspension of time and gravity.

Mariel McEwan reinterpreted Jia Wu’s theatrical dance The Other Shore into a piece designed for the camera and set it against the grandeur of the Eastern Sierra Mountains.

The Other Shore was invited by the choreographer, Pina Bausch, to perform in her International Tanzfest in Wuppertal, Dusseldorf and Essen in November 2008.
