Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires

by Jay Schmith

The city is cosmopolitan and modern. Unlike most other Latin American cities where the architecture has a strong spanish influence, the Buenos Aires elite has always followed Europe’s architecture trends closely. The result is a mix of styles that hints at many far-off cities like Rome, Paris, Madrid, Budapest but resembles none.

With their boulevards line up with palatial mansions and spacious parks, “Palermo”, “Recoleta”, “Belgrano” and some parts of downtown area are testament to days of urban planning on a grandiose scale and budget, whereas “San Telmo” and “La Boca” have a distinctly working-class italian feel. The “Recoleta” has many french influenced buildings similar to the boulevard Haussman buildings in Paris.
