From Los Angeles to Beirut and the spaces in between I am a scholar, a teacher, and an activist invested in human rights. I am especially committed to al awda, or the Right of Return for Palestinian refugees under UN Resolution 194. I teach literature courses, as well as courses in American and Middle East Studies. In the spring of 2008 I received tenure in the English department at Boise State University, U.S., but I quit my job and accepted a position at An Najah National University in Nablus, Palestine. I have also taught at the Center for American Studies and Research at the American University of Beirut; Al Quds University in Al Quds Palestine; the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan as a Fulbright Scholar; and the University of Ghana in Legon, Ghana. I am the editor of Jessie Redmon Fauset's The Chinaberry Tree & Selected Writings, and The Sleeper Wakes: Harlem Renaissance Stories by Women as well as author of Beyond Slash, Burn, and Poison: Transforming Breast Cancer Stories into Action for which I won Breast Cancer Action's Spirit of Activism Award. As an activist I have worked as the legislative coordinator for Idaho District Two for the U.S. Campaign to End the Occupation of Palestine, founded the Idaho Campaign to End Israeli Apartheid, and I was a Fellow at the Initiative for Middle East Policy Dialogue. I also work with the Lebanese Campaign to End Israeli Apartheid and Civilian Resistance in Lebanon. I helped to organize the solidarity campaign to ensure Professor Norman Finkelstein received tenure at DePaul University. Finally, I co-founded the Nahr El Bared Relief Campaign to assist Palestinian refugees in Lebanon who became Internally Displaced People (IDPs) during the spring of 2007.
