Call Of Duty 4 Review
7/11/07 | Michael Loder (Loads)

Will you answer the Call of Duty …again?

One of the best first person shooters of the year, and a must for any FPS fan! That’s right, Call of Duty is back and this time with a whole new look. The creators of the Call of Duty games have given you, the gamer, a chance to experience the action of World War 2 across 5 different games. This time they have decided to move on from the 1940s and go straight into here and now. As the title suggests the game is set in modern day battlefields with great attention to detail - the game itself is a pleasure to play, and doesn’t require too much thinking, but it’s definitely not a “run and gun” FPS (like Halo). You must always have cover, check and reload your ammo before firefights and keep looking down those sights to quickly and effectively take out your enemy. Thankfully, Call of Duty 4 uses the same engine as Call of Duty 2 rather than 3. Those of you who played Call of Duty 3 know it didn’t live up to the expectations that its two predecessors had set for it.

Call of Duty 4 goes the extra mile in almost all aspects; the lighting and sounds in the game are fantastic! You see and hear everything, but to experience the game in the most vivid quality you’ll need surround sound and a television that supports HDTV (or a good computer) but the game plays well and looks great regardless. The single player game is great, however it is more or less the same thing if you’ve played the previous Call of Duty games. It doesn’t offer anything too different apart from equipment and weaponry - things like night vision (which isn’t available in every level) and storyline, of course. The environments are amazingly realistic and are complete with destructible bits and pieces. Another new addition is the ability to shoot through walls, which makes for a more interesting game experience. The opening level is creative and exciting, set on a frigate ship during a fierce storm. You're flown in by chopper and dropped down a zip line (S.W.A.T. style), and as you play through the level you'll notice that the level is "rocking" back and forth adding complications to combat situations. The ideas are innovative and fun - you can’t go wrong! The game should give you a solid 24 hours of enemy killing action depending on the difficulty setting you put it on, and how familiar you are with first person shooters.

Moving on to the Multiplayer function which is the highlight of this game in my opinion, take on up to 12 people in an array of different game types and maps via xbox live. The games I have played so far have been smooth and great fun there is minimal lag during the game (but this does depend on your connection and the connection of the other players) making it easy for me to shoot and kill effectively. Call of duty 4 (on xbox 360) offers Split screen with up to four players as well as system link of up to 24 players and of coarse online game play.

The latest game from Activision's award winning series, I can assure you to be a hit amongst almost all crowds, the realism and effective lighting and sound makes it a nice looking, nice sounding and overall great game, this combined with great game play and smart AI makes Call of duty 4 a great game well worth your purchase. your guaranteed a good time both online and offline and in single player and multiplayer modes. With that said good luck soldier

All in All

Sound:

(Great plenty of noise and action with a little battle inspired music thrown in)

Story:

(Better than previous COD games with the reintroduction of some characters)

Graphics:

(Fantastic see every bullet and piece of debris go whizzing past you)

Gameplay:

(Same as previous games with a few touch ups still great fun and as exiting as ever)

OVERALL:

(a great game that will have you exited till the last mission and then some online is fantastic, you should buy this game if your a fan of shooters)
