Finishing The Fight
26/09/07 | Callum Grosberg (Life and Fate)
The western world stood still on September 25 as Halo 3 the latest installment in the epic halo saga was unrolled into stores at midnight around the globe.

Halo 3 is a FPS that has been developed by Bungie Studios, Halo 3 has many great features that makes it out shine its predecessors. One of the many great added features such as the Forge, and Theatre make Halo 3 more than worth it's money. Forge for instance is nearly a game in its own right as you can spend almost as much time in Forge as you can the campaign as you explore the immense and intricate details that Bungie has put into the Forge system, as you get more and more adept at using Forge you eventually try your luck with someone else helping and eventually find out that dropping Scorpions on each other can provide endless hours of fun. Another great thing about the new Halo is the Theater and File Sharing system as these are really great tools to take screenshots, movies etc., and share them with your friends as well as putting them onto your computer.

These tools wouldn't be any good without a good single-player and multi-player experience, because at the end of the day it's the core experience that makes it enjoyable to play and use the Forge and Theatre with. Bungie delivered on all fronts with Halo 3, as the core experience is something of a marvel.

Holy ^&%*

Let's take a look at the single player experience. Bungie listened to the cry of fans for Halo 3. It seems they really have sorted many things that were presented in Halo 2. An example would be that the story in Halo 3 now returns to only focusing on the Master Chief. You will only be able to play as him as you fight off the covenant for nine levels. Another issue presented in Halo 2 was the constant amount of back tracking. This issue has been greatly reduced in Halo 3. Yet there is still a small amount present. Overall the single-player is great, yet it still leaves something to be desired. As the experience is not as "fun" as it used to be in Halo CE.

On the other hand the multi-player is awesome. The overall gameplay has been somewhat tweaked from Halo 2 to give it a very distinct feel. Most would say it is better but not all. I for one am very happy with what they have done. All the weapons feel more balanced and the melee system has been tweaked for the better making it a factor in the actual multi-player gameplay. All the maps also feel fantastic. I for one really like the map guardian as it has tight corners as well as areas where you can go all out and frag 2-3 people at once.

Halo 3 is a great experience and is a must buy for any Xbox 360 owner. It may have slight shortcomings, but the massive amount of features and polish more than compensates in the experience. A definite in my opinion.
