Kim has had a bit of a wrinkle in the long road to recovery. Last night at around 10pm Marsha and Ron awoke to a loud sound in Kim’s room. Kim fell out of bed and had a Seizure on the floor of her room. It lasted about 5 minutes. Ron and Marsha immediately called 911 and Kim was rushed to the hospital. She will spend part of today in the hospital meeting with her neurologist. They will try and figure out what is going on with Kim’s brain. Brian injury patients are prone to seizures, although this is the first sign of anything like this with Kim!

Kim Seems to be doing fine now. Hopefully this will be a once in a life time thing. She now still back to her everyday routines.

Kim saw her Neurosurgeon Dr. Gans Yesterday. Gans and Kim spent some time talking about how amazing of a recovery Kim is having. He stated that, “not many people recover from this injury.” She still has a long road, but stressed that Kim has a big purpose in this life to show others in similar situations that recovery is possible. The Seizure was just a hick up along the way.
Kim will be in San Diego from Tuesday 7/17 through Friday 7/21. Marsha and Ron are doing a “test run”, to see how well Kim can acclimate back to her old life. If you are interested in see Kim, please contact Marco over the next couple of days.

Kim spent last week in San Diego for a small reunion with some friends. The event was small and intimate, but full of love and happy smiles. Please have a look on the Kim’s Return page. The Hagens then traveled north back to Eugene to visit Dr. Miller, Heather Wall, Sharon and several other care givers that help save our Kimmy!

It has been a long time since I have updated this page. Mainly do to Kim’s privacy.
We are happy to report that Kim is in great shape. Everyday she gets closer and closer to her goal of a full recovery. Yesterday she remembered and sang the words to a Van Morrison song in the car. This is showing huge memory improvement!! Please keep her in your prayers. And feel free to send her an email from time to time!

Kim had another Seizure last Friday night. She was admitted to the hospital for one night of observation. She is frustrated and annoyed that she has to deal with this part of the healing process. She needs to be free and clear of seizures for the DMV to allow her to drive again. This will help lead to her freedom and sense of independence.

Kim had four more Seizures yesterday, sending her back to Kootnie medical center for examination. The Seizures are considered post traumatic brain injury seizures. We are trying very hard to get these under control, as they are leaving Kim very depressed and angry! Please keep her in your prayers and thoughts during this step backwards.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!
Kim recently had her 6 month follow up visit with Dr. Gans. Her shunt seams to be working great! She has been feeling well over all, and has been adjusting to her new meds. Although its cold and slow going up here in Idaho, her spirits are up! She send her love to all of you!

Greeting from the land of snow! We have snow piled up over 4 1/2 feet on both sides of our driveway! Great sliding in the front yard for River and Tonga.. they have developed a good sled run from the driveway to under the trees in the front yard - lots of jumps & hills. He feels the need for speed. We took a long walk a few minutes ago, as today is sunny, beautiful blue sky, no snow clouds, and its a warm day ....36 degrees. Kim is always cold but feeling good. A little improvement in short term memory, driven more to exercise, likes her heath care worker a lot. She takes her to the movies, the gym, shopping for "cool girl stuff". We love her. Her voice therapy is going well. She feels good when someone notices the strength in her voice is better - two weeks down and six more weeks of therapy left. The at-home exercises are boring, but she's giving her best effort and we can hear an improvement.

I think that we do have a double edge sword, but it has been our goal all the way along to have her get her life back and be where she wants to be and who she wants to be with. We will always worry about her, but I think she can do it in the future. I wish we could put a time line on this, but all we have is a goal and her drive and determination to get there. I was smiling today, as she had her fire stick and other performing instruments out in the back yard and was getting the timing and the old feeling back (no stilts or aerial stuff!). She seemed pleased with herself, as she could twirl her fire stick and the other things - can't remember what she called them, but they were on stings and she twirled them (no fire on anything - don't worry!).
She went to the movies last night with Tiffany and she loved getting out on a Saturday night with friends. We are hoping that some of her high school friends will now feel more comfortable around her and she can start doing more with them. She really is progressing faster than any of the doctors told us she would. We have had some really good days and she has been working at the Spa so she can her massage hours in - 45 more hours to go. She goes only 1 hour a day - two days a week, but as she builds up her stamina, she should move to three or four days a week.
