The contexts and the visions of what The end of the world could mean had gone a long way this part of the world since 1994, when people of the Balkans were in the middle of the war which in itself was The real end of the world for many. However, saved without the end and striving for a transition towards a New beginning, in Slovenia in the meanwhile we were working hard to catch up with the world of new, the world of the big art as well.
When URBANARIA, the first exhibition to introduce Soros center for contemporary arts as a big player on national and international level, opened it’s call for entries, i decided to book in a proposal which would have not only relate to the site specific topics propagated by the exhibition, but as well to the very near by sites, just over the border, where the art of war was in full force at the time. Soon i found there was something in the rules of the game as defined by the new authorities of art which felt to me rather before the end, and not so much sounding as the new beginning. This brought me to dive deep enough into a project to obviously hit it’s borders.
The exercise for the end of the world this time, in 2007, is not a project about the past. It is based on the same proposal from 1994, but deals with The end by very personal means, as it hopes to inspire to relate to The world in a very personal way. Nevertheless, in order to experience the shift of the context within the frame brought up by LabSUs, i am welcoming the opportunity to inter-relate the materials over the distance of 13 years.
Let us start this time at the beginning. If You can afford to read this words, the near by world must be still safe enough to take a challenge and jump into the ends hiding behind the decade, by clicking:
