Iconic image of the Obama campaign
I made this photograph, above, of then Democratic Senator from Illinois, Barack Obama when he was with Actor George Clooney and Republican Senator from Kansas, Sam Brownback at the National Press Club in Washington, DC in April 2006. They talked about Human Rights and Darfur.
Tom Gralish, a Pulitzer Prize winning photographer for the Philadelphia Inquirer contacted my by e-mail late on Inauguration Day and James Danziger, from Danziger Projects located in New York City, NY also contacted me on the 21st of January 2009 to inform me that my photograph was in fact the basis for the artwork that has become better known now as the “HOPE” and “PROGRESS” posters ( upper & lower right) by artist Shepard Fairey.
In a telephone conversation on the 17th of February, Shepard Fairey acknowledged that my photograph was used and that credit should have been given as such.
