Welcome! This website is dedicated to one of the most important artists of our time, Yervand Kochar.  Many of you may wonder why this is the first time you are learning about this man.

Yervand Kochar, or as people called him, Maestro, was one of the most tragic artists of the 20th century. Maestro stormed artistic Paris and the world in 20’s and 30’s. At the blossoming of his fame Kochar visited his native Armenia, then under the Stalinist regime. Here without a trial and under false and ridiculous accusations, Kochar was thrown into torture chambers and upon release was not allowed to paint  or return to his life and fame in Paris.

From the invention of Painting in Space to the halls of Paris where he exhibited with Picasso, Miro, Kandinsky and other great artists, Kochar ended up a hostage to a most inhumane dictatorship.                    His fame and name were forgotten in the West which he conquered in his youth and his life was turned into a deadly struggle against the Communist oppression.       War was waged on this lonely and broken man. His life under siege became a monumental struggle that inspired a whole nation and caused a silent revolution.

The purpose of this website is to introduce the life and art of this amazing artist and a remarkable man.
