Swans Project

SWAN HUNTER SHIPYARD, WALLSEND

As a Photo Journalist I developed this site to document the dismantling and demise of Swan Hunter Shipyard, Wallsend. I wanted to document the dismantling of Swan Hunter Shipyard in Wallsend. The site was initially set up to ensure that future generations remember what our industrial heritage was and what once dominated the banks of the River Tyne. The Industrial Heritage of Tyneside relied on 2 industries mining and shipbuilding both which are now memories of the past. Swan Hunter was internationally renowned as world class shipbuilder. During its 130 year existence, Swan Hunter built over 1,600 ships of various types including more than 400 naval vessels.
