Presbytery Mission Statement

Click here to read the Mission Statement for KO Presbytery adopted in 2004.  Also included are other core value statements and assumptions which will help you to understand how this Presbytery sees its role and work.  This is a statement that the presbytery has taken very seriously and against which it continues to measure its effectiveness.

New Presbytery Structure

In October of 2005, the Presbytery adopted a whole new way of organizing itself, following the principles of the Policy Governance approach advocated by John Carver.   The report that was presented to that meeting outlines in readable form the thinking behind the new model as well as a basic outline of how it will work in our context.  People from other presbyteries may well be interested in giving it a look.  It can also be helpful for our own presbyters who may be confused by this unfamiliar way of doing things and wonder why we’re doing it this way.  The report has been updated slightly to reflect policy changes made since October of 2005.  You can download the report by clicking here .  It’s in PDF format.

Current Presbytery Governance Policies

Related to the new structure is a whole set of policies which describe all the different bodies, working units and positions in the new structure.  They are a work in progress and your feedback and suggestions are welcome.  In the meantime, they are guiding the operations as we feel our way forward into a new way of doing things.

Other Presbytery Policies

Apart from the policies that are guiding our new structure, we have also put together a collection of other policies that have been passed by the Presbytery or the Executive over the past number of years.  Some of these are clearly out of date given the recent changes.  However it would be worth checking if you’re wondering about Presbytery policy on this or that.  To see or download these policies, click here.

Presbytery Oversight Visitation Policy and Resource

The United Church Manual states that every presbytery must send a team to visit each pastoral charge and camp in it’s bounds on a three year rotation.  Each presbytery has its own way of conducting these visits.  This manual in two parts outlines the KO Presbytery Policy for these visits and tools for conducting them. Each one is available in pdf format (smaller file) and in Microsoft Word format (larger but editable). We have recently added a one page summary to the report form, the purpose of which is to help the Presbytery Leadership Circle keep in touch with the state of the presbytery and its congregations.  This page has been added to the Appendix below but you can also download that single page by clicking here.

Reimbursement Policy for Presbytery Expenses

Many people travel while doing work on behalf of Presbytery.  They also travel to Presbytery meetings.  This policy outlines the requirements and reimbursement rates for Presbytery travel and other expenses.  You can also download an Expense Claim Form here.
