1. Salary and Allowances Schedule 2009

  2. This is the document that provides the required minimum salaries for ministry personnel along with allowances such as housing and travel - in fact all remuneration related information.  This document has been reworked this year to make it more readable and clearer.  An additional document was produced in 2007 entitled Salary Schedule Explained.  So if you need further explanation, it’s all in there.  Both documents are in pdf form.

  3. Financial Handbook for Congregations

  4. This is the former Treasurer’s Handbook.  Every church should have one as the indispensable guide for all things financial in the pastoral charge.  The latest full version available is for 2006.  There is, however, a supplement for 2007 that outlines the few changes effective that year.

  5. Congregational Trustees Handbook

  6. The role of the Board of Trustees in a congregation is a more important one than many people realize. Being a trustee is not simply an honourary title. The board carries serious responsibilities.  Every trustee should have access to a copy of this handbook and be familiar with its contents.

  7. Congregational Investment Policies

  8. If a congregation has financial assets of any size, it is wise to have a policy to guide the trustees in investing the money in ways that are both prudent and productive.  Here is a sample investment policy developed by the Elk Valley Pastoral Charge.

  9. More on Trustees

  10. A few years ago, Cariboo Presbytery, after consultation with our BC Conference legal counsel, developed three brief documents to guide trustees in certain situations.  The three documents can be downloaded here:

  11. Congregational Trustees:  A summary of the main role and responsibilities of the Board of Trustees.

  12. Trustee Liability:  What can individual trustees be held liable for in law?

  13. Title ChangeWhat do trustees need to know when they have to change the names on the Certificate of Title (deed) for church property?

  14. Using Building Fund Money for Other Purposes

  15. Sometimes when there is a looming deficit in the church budget it is tempting to divert money from the building fund to the operating fund.  This is illegal except under specific circumstances.  Read this legal opinion from Cynthia Gunn, one of our national church staff lawyers, on how and when this might be OK.

  16. Expenses Incurred in Presbytery Business

  17. Kamloops Okanagan Presbytery has a policy and a claim form for people traveling on Presbytery Business.  Click here to go to the correct page to download these documents.
