My husband got a DUI 3 weeks ago.

Ugh.

$1500 bail and $1000 for an attorney. And, who knows what will happen regarding fines and driving school?

Luckily, he didn’t “blow.” But, he did succumb to a field sobriety test. It turns out that these incriminating things are voluntary.

He has stopped drinking and smoking all at the same time.
He thought that I should be throwing myself at him now, but truly I feel he is a stranger. Who is he without drinking?

Up until lately, the drunkenness was not too much of an issue in regards to our 2 small girls. But, my older girl is now 8 and she is much more aware of her Daddy’s drinking and his lack of control. No child should have to feel so insecure. He should be a rock for her.

After the dreaded call came that he was in the big house, I told my oldest that I had to pick Daddy up because he left his car somewhere else. After I bailed him out, he told me that he was going to tell her what had happened. I am all about being open and honest with her, but I thought it would be less damaging to her if we “let it go.” I think it would cause her extreme anxiety (knowing what they have taught her in school about drinking and drugs) that the police may lock her Daddy up and throw away the key or he may be hurt or killed while driving.

Maybe we can tell of this horror when she is old enough to drive.

What do you think?
