The One and Only!
Mark Appling Fisher - Photographer
Welcome to my web site.
My work is varied, from infrared film to digital infrared, from black and white to color, to toy cameras, 35mm film, medium format as well as pinhole.
I’ve been playing with cameras since the early ‘70’s, and still very much enjoy exploring new techniques, new concepts, new subjects. I also am quite interested in the oldest processes – bromoil, salt prints, cyanotypes, VanDyke brown, as well as albumen, etc.
Darkroom work has always been a personal experience for me – the quiet of it, the meditative atmosphere, the slower pace, the time alone with just one negative, or a couple. Black and white film is still very much alive, at least for me, and I will continue using it ‘til it is no longer available.
The digital aspects of photography are obviously the currency of the day. While I much prefer silver prints, and black and white film, I have a full coterie of digital equipment which I use on a daily basis. And now, I am comfortable in blending the two methods, creating digital negatives as enlargements for salt prints, or scanning film for a different look and feel than strict film or digital alone.
My work is not for sale, and I no longer exhibit my work anywhere but on this web site. Updates to the site are not accomplished as frequently as I might like, but since this is not my method of obtaining income, I tend to move slowly when posting new work.
Thanks for looking,
