Frodo and Sam are my first breeder rats. They were bred by Emma Sims under the mentorship of Epiphany Stud.
Frodo is by far the laziest rat I have ever owned. He loves nothing more than spending all day lounging around in his favourite hammock, moving only to eat and drink. He does occasionally leave the cage to explore though and when the mood takes him he has quite a curious streak.
Frodo seems to be a size 8 rat in a size 10 skin. He has so much loose skin that it’s very difficult to medicate him when necessary. You can’t hold him by the scruff of the neck as he seems to be all scruff and no neck! To look at him you’d assume that he’d been overweight and slimmed down but he’s always been like this. His skin just seems to grow at the same rate as the rest of him so is always baggy.
At the 2007 NFRS Boscombe Down show Frodo won the “Brian May Special Rex Award” in the pet class.
Frodo shares a Critter 3 cage with his brother Sam and Sméagol and Déagol.
