Standing -N- Truth:
Is a documentary that explores the fears and shame that many members of the African American community struggle with surrounding sex, sexuality and HIV/AIDS. Moving through debilitating emotions has given rise to voices ready to stand up and confront the silence! Standing-N-Truth is an exploration of love of self and love of community. It is an exploration of freedom.
Premise:
In order to dramatically decrease the spread of HIV/AIDS, topics centered around sex and sexuality must first be addressed. How can we as a community talk about HIV/AIDS when it is considered taboo to even bring up subject matter about sex or sexuality. Communicating about sex at an appropriate age may lead to a better understanding and appreciation for one’s sexuality. It may also help to improve the level of confidence in individuals who struggle with their sexual identity. It is the belief of the organization that people make better and responsible choices for themselves when they believe in the value of self and their community.
