The Chemistry

of Pysankarstvo

Many years ago, in the dark ages before cell phones and personal computers, I somehow managed to earn a degree in chemistry. It was an interesting field, and I was good at it, but I went on to study and practice medicine, so much of my chemistry knowledge went by the wayside.

But, somewhere in my cerebral cortex, those bits of knowledge still exist, and I can sometimes retrieve them (with some difficulty, I should add) when needed. On the following pages I have tried to elucidate the chemistry of pysankarstvo, or why things happen the way they do. It is based mostly on my analysis, so may contain errors, although I have tried to stick to the basics and avoid anything too esoteric, complex or arcane.  If you are a real practicing chemist, and find errors within, please drop me a note and let me know, so I can make the appropriate corrections.

Topics I have written about (or plan to):

Note that only the first topic, Aniline dyes, has been written up and posted so far.
