It was the kind of heat where the LAST thing you want to do is get all snuggly. Just looking at these pictures again is making me start to sweat. But Nicole and Dan were total troopers and, water bottles in tow, we took a nice walk along Rock Creek Park in DC and found some great spots.

The last image is one of my favorite engagement shots of all time. The light was absolutely perfect, and I love all the green and the huge smile on Nicole’s face (even if she was really thinking “I can’t take ONE MORE sweaty kiss!”).
Sometimes logistics make it impossible to meet couples before the wedding day. Such was the case with Ashley and James, who flew in from California for their wedding at the elegant Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Maryland. I had actually never even spoken with them until their wedding day! While it added a little to the typical pre-wedding nerves, all I can say is that if all my weddings are as great as this one I’ll be one happy wedding photographer.

Ashley and James had one of the most heartfelt ceremonies I’ve seen in awhile, with lots of laughter and tears. I love when ceremonies are personal and about the two people getting married. Self-penned vows, a song written and performed just for their wedding, and good friends officiating (gotta love the Internet) made this ceremony extra-special for Ashley and James.

After the ceremony, we braved the stifling heat for roughly two minutes for a few quick portraits before heading back inside to dry off. Then it was party time! After starting with an awesome horah dance (my favorite), the talented and energetic band ‘Round Midnight had the dance floor packed all night.

Congrats Ashley and James! Thank you for having me at your phenomenal wedding.

Their love and friendship shone through despite the change in plans. We even got to go outside after the rain for a few quick portraits. Elaine and Ricky switched up the “clinking glass kiss” tradition by pulling names of their married guests out of a bowl and making them kiss! Great idea!

Congratulations Elaine and Ricky! Thank you for having me as your wedding photographer.

AVAM was the perfect setting for their wedding and reflected their fun-loving personalities (the reception was in the “Love Barn” and they cleverly used giant white balloons as centerpieces!).

One of the sweetest moments I’ve seen in awhile happened when Chris’s daughter sang two songs - including “Hey Jude”, one of dad’s faves - with her voice coach. Chris nearly lost it, as did the rest of us. Oh, and be sure to check out the first kiss picture below to see a child’s perspective on adults kissing. That image was a happy accident as I didn’t even notice her face until afterwards while editing.

Francoise and Chris - thank you for having me as your wedding photographer. Your wedding was terrific and I was honored to be there.
