Missed the First LI Pride Parade in a Dozen Years
Sunday, June 8, 2008
This is the first year in over a dozen in which I did not take part in the Long Island Pride Parade and Festival in the park. The reason being was simply a matter of conflicting schedules. The Long Island Pride Parade is always scheduled for the 2nd Sunday of the month of June. But we are also in the middle of our 2008 series of Doctor Who: Podshock LIVE. A weekly live version of our podcast reviewing the new episodes of the current series which are transmitted on the BBC the Saturday before. Last week we had such a great turn out on the live show as we reviewed ‘Silence in the Library’ and today continued that momentum with our live show reviewing ‘Forest of the Dead.’
So we had a great podcast today. Thank you for everyone that listened and those that took part in it by calling in. It’s fantastic that we are all participating in this together.
But it did mean missing taking part in the Long Island Pride Parade and Festival. As I said, this is the first time in over 12 years that not only did I not march in it, I did not even attend. I would like to have at least attended, albeit late. But the fact of the matter is, by the time I was finished with the live podcast, grabbed a quick lunch, gotten ready, make the long haul out to Huntington where it is held, I would have gotten there for the last hour only of the festivities. At that point, things are winding down anyway and many people are heading home or after hour festivities. So it really didn’t make much sense to rush out there only to then travel all the back here.
Being that I have so much work here to, I would have at that point headed home myself to get more done. Perhaps it is just as well in a sense because it is unbearably hot out today. For a spring day, it is in the 90’s (F). Still, it would have been nice to met up with some old friends there, and being a former member of the board of the organizations, it would be nice to see how things went.
I do hope all went well. Even though I was unable to be there in person, I was in spirit at least.
Happy Long Island pride day people.
